"The Yellow Wallpaper" - October 29, 2018

Things to remember about this text:
  • Charlotte Perkins Gilman is the author NOT the narrator
  • The narrator doesn't have a name
  • The narrator's husband is John and her sister in law is Jennie
  • The narrator recently had a baby
  • The narrator was diagnosed with hysteria and prescribed the rest cure to help her
  • This is historical fiction, which means it's based on real history, but the events in the story are fake

Warm Up (October 29): Since you know why Gilman wanted to write this story and you have an understanding of the Victorian Era, do you think the narrator is legitimately crazy, or were the circumstances to blame?

Write your answer in your journal and then share your thoughts for 2 minutes with a shoulder partner.
